Innocence and Reality

Mathew E. Sikorski, Ph.D.

A captivating documentary that details the journey of Dr. Mathew Sikorski from the idyllic childhood in Warsaw, Poland, the Nazi terror of World War II in Poland and Germany, then finally liberation by the American Army in April, 1945. The stories shared during the talk are full of suspense and humor. They are based on the book by the same title. What you will see is a live presentation like those delivered for visiting school children, as well as adults, who come for a tour to the William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum in mid-town Atlanta. Through a series of miracles, Dr. Sikorski not only survived the war, but followed his heart to America.

MAT SIKORSKI earned his B.S. and M.S. in Physics at the Illinois Institute of Technology. His Ph.D. was completed at the University of Manchester, England. As a Research Scientist, Mat began his professional career at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. He was awarded 11 patents in acoustics for his work. Later he moved to the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Here he taught applied physics and conducted research in materials science for over thirty years. Dr. Sikorski continues to live in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife of 48 years, Barbara. They have three grown sons, a daughter-in-law, and a Tibetan Spaniel named Shadow.
