The Lighthouse Sculpture Blown-Glass Ornament Series are intricate renditions of American Scenery with the design concept to 'capture and celebrate moments in time' within these handmade treasures. This ornament characterizes the historic Cape Hatteras Light located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. At 208 ft. Cape Hatteras Light is the tallest lighthouse in America. The current brick conical tower of white and black spiral bands with a red brick base and black lantern was constructed in 1870; replacing the original dark sandstone structure built in 1803. Due to heavy shoreline erosion, in 2000 undertaking a massive operation the lighthouse was relocated inland to safer ground. It has recently become decommissioned, however it is still operational and open to visitors.
